Where did the name, MentalSoup come from? I was eating lunch at work, having a nice break between client sessions when I started thinking about what I would like to write in my blog. Of course, I need to write about my expertise-mental health. Surprisingly, I was not eating soup.

MentalSoup: one cohesive idea that speaks to the diversity and nourishment that we all need on our mental wellness journeys.

1. Mental Health Expertise:

Mental health is complex, with many factors influencing emotional well-being, from stress and anxiety to self-care practices and therapy. Just like there are many layers and facets to mental health, soup can be seen as a metaphor for the variety and complexity of mental health. Each ingredient in a soup represents a different part of mental health, sometimes one needs a little bit of everything to feel "whole."

2. Variety of Soup:

Soup is made up of so many ingredients, often coming together to form something greater than the individual components. In the same way, mental health has a variety of factors: emotions, thoughts, physical health, experiences, medications, coping mechanisms - the list goes on. Just as no two soups are exactly the same, no two mental health journeys are identical.

3. Comforting and Nourishing:

Soup is often associated with comfort, nourishment, and healing. When we're not feeling our best, chicken noodle soup was the way to go. Mental health care offers emotional warmth, healing, and nourishment. The blog hopes that the insights shared will be both comforting and enriching, like a bowl of soup for the soul.

4. "Soup to nuts":

Making soup involves everything from the first ingredient to the last, from the beginning to the very end. "Soup to nuts" is a phrase that means from the beginning to the end. This is a full course meal, y'all. Mental well-being isn’t just one aspect; it’s the whole picture. It’s a complete journey, one that takes us through every ingredient, layer, and step of the way.

5. Inclusive and Accessible:

Soup is universally known and it seems that everyone has a "soup story." It's easy to make, affordable, and can be tailored for many tastes and preferences. Along with mental health care, it should be inclusive and adaptable to different people’s needs, whether it’s through professional help, self-care practices, or peer support.

MentalSoup represents the idea that mental health is both a complex and deeply personal journey, but one that we can all nurture with care and intention. I hope you find comfort in these posts. No matter how complex, you're always worth taking care of.
